Keyboard shorcuts FTW

Using keyboard shortcuts can often be much quicker than finding the right menu option to do things and having just a few shortcuts under your belt can speed up your navigation of windows and applications massively (as well as making you look really swish)

So here are a few of my most used keyboard shortcuts

Windows:

Win + E Open new windows Explorer View
Ctrl + Shift + Esc  Open Task Manager
Win + Pause/Break  Open the System Properties window
Alt + Tab  Open the System Properties window
Win + Tab  Win 10: Shows all active applications and desktops
Ctrl + Win + Left  Win10: Switch active desktop
Ctrl + Win + Right  Win10: Switch active desktop
Win + R  Run – see below for more on this

Chrome:

Ctrl + W Close current tab
Ctrl + T Open new tab
Ctrl + Shift + T Re-open last closed tab!
Ctrl + Tab Open tab to the right of current
Ctrl + Shift + Tab Open tab to the left of current

Run!

The run command can be great because it gives access to one line commands which will be run by windows like opening files or applications, if you want to get really advanced you can even pass in arguments to affect an application’s startup parameters but more on that another time. Here are a few of my most commonly used run commands:

msconfig Opens the windows startup configuration utility
cmd Opens the command prompt
control Opens the control Panel
Paint Opens Paint
winword Opens word
excel Opens Excel
notepad Opens Notepad
wordpad Opens Wordpad

If you’ve any you use often think I’ve missed out feel free to let me know
